Mareth is a bard, graduate of the Bard College of Longford, and rumored to be a Spellsinger. He left behind a life at the college to seek fame and stories of reknown as an adventurer but that life was not what he expected. After the death of his friends he found solace at the bottom of the bottle and is found haunting the taverns of Kingshold, singing for his supper and charming a succession of women who should know better. A man concerned he’s past his prime.

He loosely retied his shoulder-length auburn hair behind his head and checked his green trousers and jerkin to make sure there weren’t too many visible stains

Hoskin is the king’s chancellor, responsible for the governance of much of the kingdom of Edland. He never wanted the job, but his father was the King’s chancellor before him, and so opportunity bit him on the arse. Hoskin prefers the company of books and avoiding real responsibility.

Hoskin appeared rather like a malnourished donkey: long, skeletal and decidedly grey.

Alana is a servant at the Palace and a native of the Narrows, one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city. Alana is bright and intelligent, though careful not to draw attention to herself. She finds herself assigned to be the maid of Jyuth.

Alana was a slip of a girl: sparrow-like in frame and motion, head twitching to keep aware of what was happening around her so she could train her full bright eyes on what occurred. It gave her the appearance of being afraid of her surroundings, like a cat mistreated by a previous owner and becoming mistrustful of strangers; but, in fact, she was fascinated by the palace world around her.

Neenahwi is a native of the far-away place known as the Wild Continent, a place no Edlander has visited. She was abducted by Llewdon, Emporer of Pyrfew when she was a child for reasons unknown, before she was rescued by Jyuth. She is a wizard, and only student of Jyuth.

She wore a simple silk robe of purple. Her hair reached down to the middle of her back. When in Kingshold, she would braid it to keep it out of her face. Here in the jungle, she settled for the old methods and used fresh mud from the bank of a small stream to slick it back and hold it in place. Neenahwi’s skin was olive brown with thin scars slightly visible on her arms and face from a life that had held a certain number of challenges.

Motega would describe himself as an adventurer, and by adventurer he means he will do almost anything for a paycheck, be it ridding a town of troublesome monsters or stealing something of importance. A warrior, equally adept with the bow or his twin war axes, he is marked by ghostly white skin and the mark of a hawk on his face. Motega is always accompanied by his pet falcon Per.

Motega wore brown leather traveling trousers and a hooded jerkin over a rough cotton shirt, with well-worn leather boots on his feet. Under his open jerkin was a bandolier of slim knives and pouches across his chest, but he wore his hood up to hide his skin. His complexion was mixed. Some would call it piebald, as most of his skin was a ghostly white with brown patches that, on his face, resembled the wings of a bird, and it attracted attention. His black hair hidden under the hood was cut short, no longer down to the middle of his back since that last escapade of theirs back in Carlburg.

Major Secondary Characters

Florian is the best friend of Motega and skilled fighter renown for his duel long swords. He is a veteran of the Edland army, former mercenary and adventurer alongside Motega and Trypp.

He wasn’t much taller than Motega, but he was nearly twice as wide. That was Florian: friend, veteran of three wars and more than twenty battles, many as a mercenary, and famous for the two mismatched long swords strapped to his back (famous at least if you moved in the right circles)…chainmail hauberk over leather trousers with grey traveling cloak fastened around his neck by a small silver pin.

Trypp is the business brains of the Motega-Florian-Trypp triumvirate. Oh, and he’s also one of the best thieves in the business. Trypp grew up as an orphan in Kingshold and was once a member of the Twilight Brotherhood thieves guild.

…tall, athletic, dark-skinned man, traveling cloak worn over close-tailored cotton clothes. Motega knew Trypp didn’t like to have any excess weight or fabric get in the way, especially in his line of work. Trypp always thought the coin spent on a good tailor was an investment worth making.

https://i0.wp.com/dpwoolliscroft.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Petra.jpg?w=2000

Petra is the elder sister of Alana, though she follows Alana’s lead. Petra is a bar maid at the Royal Oak.

She had such grace—her lithe body clothed in a simple green dress (which brought out the green in her eyes) with a white apron, talking to the tradesmen who came to eat before the day ahead. Laughing at their jokes, maybe touching their arms to make them feel welcome.

Lady Grey is the wife of Lord Hoxteth, the Lord Treasurer of Edland. Her background is a mystery though she forms a formidable partnership with her husband.

Behind him, next to the unlit fireplace, sat a handsome woman in an attractive purple gown, some ten years younger (or her life had been ten years kinder) with black hair braided down her back. She didn’t look up from the book she was reading…

https://i0.wp.com/dpwoolliscroft.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Jyuth.jpg?w=2000

Jyuth is the ancient wizard responsible for the founding of Edland and has been the advisor to the throne for over a thousand years.

He looked in sprightly health; clear skin with strong arms, broad chest and barrel-like belly. His white hair long, full, and tied back, with a close-cropped white beard. A pendant—a large blue stone surrounded by strange sigils—hung around his neck, drawing Hoskin’s gaze. The Amulet of Jyuth, worn, of course, by Jyuth himself,
